The Funders

Founded in 2009, MassNeeds was born out of discussions between the Boston Foundation, the Eos Foundation, and the Highland Street Foundation seeking a better way to coordinate their efforts to support nonprofits that directly provide basic needs to Massachusetts residents in the winter months.

By sharing information about their giving, participating funders are able to more effectively address community needs both in terms of issue area and geography. Further, the combined effort works to raise the profile of issues related to winter assistance, highlight the great need that exists in the Commonwealth, and catalyze financial and volunteer support for these issues from the broader community.

MassNeeds has benefitted from a partnership with the Associated Grant Makers, the regional association of philanthropic organizations, in working to promote the impact of this collaboration.

The 2012-13 MassNeeds funding collaborative, which includes over 40 corporate, public and private foundations, announced a more than $8.4 million commitment this winter to support nonprofits focused on hunger, housing, heating and health needs in Massachusetts. The coordinated effort is nearly double the amount committed in 2011-2012 by MassNeeds collaborative members.  If you are a funder who would like to join the consortium – send us an email.
